Dennis Street - A Brief Pictoral History

By his daughter, Wendy

Dad's history is a little sketchy but from the stories I've been told I've been able to put together a brief history of his time on the earth so far.

Dad was born a long, long time ago.

When he was growing up he dreamed of being a space cadet in Star Trek (or maybe he was a bit of a space cadet, the details aren't quite clear).

He would go to the regular matinee and see the weekly movie and imagined he was in the movies.

He joined a band with some friends.

What's that dad? Oh not that kind of band? Oh this one below? (he's second from the right)

Dad was lucky to be around when man landed on the moon too, apparently they got me to watch but I was still a toddler so hadn't got the faintest idea of what was going on.

In the 70s when he had been in Australia a few years he wanted to dance like John Travolta and tried out for Saturday Night Fever but they told him they wanted someone with hair so he missed out.

He was a diligent office worker though, and mostly a pen pusher paymaster for most of his time here.

We kept pestering him to get a cat, and so we did.

Living most of his life in Australia with three females at times he would lose his head because he was always outnumbered.

When he moved to the Gold Coast with the beautiful surf beaches, he dreamed of surfing, it was his fear of water above his ankles that stopped him pursuing his dream.

Before retirement, he went in search of work, but due to his age he ended up doing volunteering instead and helping around the house.

Now he spends his retirement chilling out, spending time on the internet, reading and enjoying the company of those around him.

Overall, I have to say, my dad is one cool guy, always has been, always will be and we love him more than all the sugar in the world!

Where We Live

We have travelled from Kiveton Park in South Yorkshire, England to Australia where we lived in the Dandenong area in the South East of Melbourne, Victoria for 37 years. We now call the Gold Coast, Queensland home as do our daughters and my youngest brother Peter.

On each page you will find small snap shots of what we have around where we live, from fauna and flora, the ocean and waterways and anything else that reflects where we live, we hope you enjoy them.
